DEVELOPMENTAL EVALUATION CLINIC

Lynn Adams, PhD conducts developmental evaluations at Crane for children under the age of 7 years, in an effort to help with a regional backlog of children on waiting lists for psychological evaluations.

Developmental evaluations can lead to crucial early intervention services as well as increased understanding of the child’s developmental profile and how that impacts childrearing and educational decision making.

For the Developmental Evaluation Clinic (DEC), Dr. Adams tailors assessment procedures to families’ individual needs.

  • The process starts with a standardized developmental questionnaire completed before the first appointment (Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales – Third Edition). Both parent and teacher report options are available.

  • The first appointment is a parent interview, to collect developmental information, interpret questionnaire findings, and plan the assessment process.

Assessments, scheduled after the first appointment, will include some combination of the following:

  • Review of any previous evaluations.

  • A standardized measure of cognitive development (Mullen Scales of Early Learning, Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development – Fourth Edition, or Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence – Fourth Edition)

  • A daycare or classroom observation, or a virtual teacher interview.

  • The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition, a standardized behavior observation procedure that allows for diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The evaluation concludes with a parent feedback session and a comprehensive written report that includes a clinical diagnosis, if indicated, and recommendations for intervention and education.

The cost of the first visit is $250. The remaining evaluation cost depends on individual needs, and ranges between $1500 and $2500. This service is self-pay and includes a receipt you can submit to your insurance company.
